On March 17, 2010 the 6th Annual American Indian Disability Summit will assemble for a disability conference at the Sheraton Phoenix Airport Hotel in Tempe, Arizona to facilitate training, outreach and technical assistance for American Indians with disabilities. The summit provides an opportunity for American Indians in urban and rural areas to gain awareness of support services and empowerment by learning strategies to eliminate barriers to service delivery. Speakers, panels and service exhibitors will focus on the theme of "Gathering Native Voices to Explore Common Ground, Affirm Shared Strengths, and Enhance our Resources".
This event is fragrance free. Please do not wear scented products to the event.

Michael Blatchford (Navajo) will be awarded the Marcus Harrison, Jr. Leadership Award posthumously at the 6th Annual American Indian Disability Summit for his leadership and dedication toward assisting American Indians with disabilities and to honor and recognize his efforts in the Independent Living movement for tribal members with disabilities.
The Marcus Harrison, Jr., Leadership Award was established to acknowledge others working to keep that voice of advocacy for Native Americans with disabilities alive through his/her leadership and dedication.
Marcus Harrison, Jr., (Comanche) - Former Chief Executive Officer of Native Health, located in Phoenix, Arizona was instrumental in arranging the community Talking Circles in 2004 that led to the first Urban American Indian Disability & Vocational Rehabilitiation Summit the following year and continues successfully each year since then, now known as the American Indian Disability Summit. Mr. Harrison was a leader in the community and strongly advocated for those who needed a voice.
Registration:
Registrations should be completed and paid by March 12, 2010. Any registrations after that date will be considered an "At Door" registration.
At door registrations are welcome but will incur a $20 late fee.

Scholarships:
Scholarships may be availabile for consumers demonstrating financial need. The availability is dependent upon available funds. Applicants should request consideration directly by emailing azbridge@abil.org

A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided to all registered participants on site at the Sheraton Phoenix Airport Hotel. Additional details will be available during on-site registration

Rooms are available at the reduced rate of $141.00 per night and are subject to availability. There are four accessible rooms in the hotel. Participant Drop Off:
There will be an ADA accessible designated drop off point at the Sheraton Phoenix Airport Hotel.

Parking is available onsite at no cost.

Dial-A-Ride:
Accessible by East Valley Dial-A-Ride and Phoenix Dial-A-Ride (ADA only with Phoenix DAR).
Valley Metro Service:
The Light Rail system stops North of the hotel. Participants should depart the Light Rail at University Drive & Rural Road and transfer to the Route 30 University West to South Mountain CC. The Route 30 bus stops at 52nd Street and 14th Street. The hotel is two blocks from the bus stop. Additional route information can be found at: www.valleymetro.org

INDEPENDENT LIVING AND ADVOCACY BY, AND FOR, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
ABIL offers and promotes programs designed to empower people with disabilities to take personal responsibility so they may achieve or continue independent lifestyles within the community.
ABIL is serving as the fiscal agent for this the 6th Annual American Indian Disability Summit. As such, they coordinate closely with the American Indian Disability Summit Planning Committee to ensure the most successful outcome for the participants of the Disability Summit.
